What is Makomo Steam Therapy?
Makomo steam uses Makomo, a plant from the rice family, which has been historically treasured for its medicinal and purifying properties. Revered as sacred, it is believed to repel negative energy and purify both the body and its surroundings. It’s even famously used in the sacred ropes of Izumo Taisha Shrine.

Makomo
The makomo we use is a unique and special ingredient cultivated in the lush natural environment of Ishigaki Island. It is grown through natural farming methods, completely free of fertilizers and pesticides, and carefully harvested by dedicated farmers. To ensure its nutrients, including abundant minerals and vitamins, remain intact, it undergoes minimal processing and is delivered fresh.
This is a one-of-a-kind makomo produced exclusively for maco.katsu by the farmers, making it truly special. To maintain its high quality, the makomo is stored and managed in a separate location with controlled humidity, kept below 25%.
Cape
Our capes are made from 100% natural hemp fabric, using entirely additive-free materials, including dyes.
The design, crafted by Japan’s top stylist Kayo Hosomi specifically for our store, maco.katsu, allows for neck adjustments that help prevent the inhalation of substances such as silica into the lungs during breathing while preventing any loss of silica absorption to the rest of the body.
In line with our philosophy of ensuring everything that touches you is natural, the detergent and fabric softener used to wash the capes and towels are also free of additives.
Clay Pots & Heater
We use far-infrared clay pots that are lead-free, ensuring safety from substances that could impede blood circulation or have carcinogenic properties.
The radiant heater used in our treatments emits no electromagnetic waves, protecting clients from electromagnetic exposure. It is safe for use by pregnant individuals and those with pacemakers, providing peace of mind for everyone.
Chairs
Our custom-made chairs are crafted from domestic natural Japanese cypress (hinoki) and are designed to be both safe and comfortable. No paint is used, preventing the release of harmful substances when exposed to heat.
With a supportive backrest, these chairs allow for extended periods of sitting without discomfort, ensuring you can relax with ease.
Water
The water used in our treatments exceeds even the safety standards of natural spring water. We start with tap water and purify it using advanced filtration to remove trihalomethanes, chloroform, and 13 other potentially harmful substances suspected of being carcinogenic.
Flavored Water
Before treatments, we serve a refreshing flavored water made with butterfly pea flowers from Ishigaki Island, combined with lemon and water. This drink is believed to offer anti-aging benefits and help alleviate eye fatigue.

Our salon is dedicated to encouraging clients to care for the femme (vagina) with as much thought and attention as one would give their face. We provide this care through the use of makomo steaming.
The rate of transdermal absorption varies across the body. For example, if the absorption rate through the skin of the arm is considered "1," then the scalp absorbs substances at 3.5 times this rate, the mucous membranes in the mouth absorb substances at 10 to 20 times this rate, and the vaginal mucosa absorbs substances at an astonishing 42 times the rate.
While this high absorption rate allows beneficial substances to be easily taken in, it also means harmful substances can enter the body just as easily.
